KATHY'S KORNER

Happy Holidays to everyone! I can’t believe that we are past Thanksgiving and the first semester will soon be behind us. I have heard from many school nurses that this has been a very challenging year. Let’s hope that next semester is better for all.
Last year the Regional Nurses published a bimonthly newsletter that was well received. This year the decision was to change the format to a Blog. Now, I am still having difficulty comprehending how a blog works but I have been assured that this is the new way to communicate. We have not gone on Facebook or Twitter but who knows what the future will bring!
Speaking of next semester, we have a lot of exciting professional development planned. Cathy White and I will be conducting the regional workshops again. As soon as details are finalized and the registration site completed, you will be able to register online. The regional nurses have also been working hard to create a very dynamic and comprehensive training on mental health. They will have numerous trainings around the state. Make sure that both of these trainings are a priority for you to attend.
We are also scheduling a HANDS Diabetes training that will occur in the Denver area sometime in early March. The Diabetes Care and Prevention Unit at CDPHE has generously contributed funds to bring HANDS to the metro area.
Expanding your professional knowledge and staying current in school nursing practice is your responsibility under the NASN Scope and Standards of Practice.
We look forward to seeing you next semester! Happy Holidays!
